The Story

Capitalizing on the lack of hockey teams in a number of major American cities and mid-level Canadian cities, the WHA was the first major league to compete with the NHL. The New York Raiders were intended to be the WHA's flagship franchise, and the team was initially slated to play in the brand-new Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island. However, Nassau County was holding out for an NHL franchise and when the NHL finally responded by hastily awarding a franchise to Long Island—the New York Islanders - the lease with the Coliseum was structured in such a way to effectively lock out non-NHL teams, forcing the Raiders to play at Madison Square Garden.

Unsurprisingly, the Raiders couldn't compete with the Rangers and due to poor attendance, the owners defaulted, and the league ended up taking control of the team midway through the season. Following the season, New York real estate mogul Ralph Brent bought the team and renamed it the New York Golden Blades.

Crafted with the intention of being the softest shirt in your lineup, our signature tees are made with premium airlume (for softness) and ringspun (for durability) cotton combined with poly to make the perfect tee👌 that wears and feels like a well-worn favorite. Our garments are printed with inks that actually blend into the fabric giving it more character and true vintage look with every wash.
