MILL Lacrosse Logo Tee
Regular price $34.00 Save $0.00The Story
The rebirth of major professional box lacrosse in the United States came on March 13, 1986, with the formation of the Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse League. The league opened play for the 1987 season with two games on January 10, 1987: the Philadelphia Wings at the New Jersey Saints and the Baltimore Thunder at the Washington Wave. Darrell Russell was named Commissioner of the league.
The four teams contested a six-game regular season before a postseason which saw all four teams qualify for a single knockout tournament which ended with the Baltimore Thunder being crowned as the EPBLL's first champion in 1987. The league announced that a total of 124,536 fans attended Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse League games in its first season.
The league became known as the Major Indoor Lacrosse League (MILL) starting in the 1988 season, which lasted until 1998 when it became the National Lacrosse League (NLL).

1998 Syracuse Smash Lacrosse Tee
Regular price $34.00 Save $0.00The Story
Representing the transition from the MiLL to the NLL, the Syracuse Smash were an expansion team into the newly named league in 1998. Despite featuring legendary Syracuse University players in their lineup like Paul Gait, the Smash flopped at the box office and struggled to put a good product on the field, finishing 6-30 during its three-year run - good for last in the standings each season. The lasting image of the team's on-going roster issues was the time it had to pull a 43-year-old fan/practice goalie out of the War Memorial stands to fill in during a game when the regular goalie got hurt. The team folded after the 2000 season.

1987 Washington Wave Lacrosse Tee
Regular price $34.00 Save $0.00The Story
The Washington Wave were one of the founding teams in the Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse League (renamed in 1989 to the Major Indoor Lacrosse League). They played in the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland. The team's first coach, Bud Beardmore was the respected former coach who won two national titles with the University of Maryland. The franchise folded after the 1989 season.
From a 1987 Sports Illustrated article:
"For all you jaded NHL and NBA fans who complain that the regular season seems meaningless, welcome to the Eagle League, a new bargain-basement box lacrosse outfit in which the regular season is meaningless: All four franchises made the playoffs, and in the title game on Saturday at the Capital Centre near Washington, neither opponent had a winning record. In fact, the team that won the championship had tied for last in the standings.
Eagle League lacrosse differs from the field variety in that the goals are smaller, the sticks are shorter and each squad has 6 players instead of 10. It's played in a hockey rink on artificial turf and paced by a 45-second shot clock. But while field lacrosse is a comparatively genteel sport played by alleged gentlemen, pro box offers a brand of play that's often downright vicious."

1966 50th Anniversary N.A.G. Blue Jay Lacrosse Tee
Regular price $34.00 Save $-34.00The Story
A special 50th Anniversary edition, inspired by the original artwork of Neil A. Grauer (JHU Class of '69) who had a version of this cartoon drawing of a Hopkins Blue Jay first published in the student newspaper in the spring of 1966. Before Hopkins lacrosse games, Grauer would draw the Blue Jay beating up the mascot of whatever team they were opposing. Those drawings were a favorite of Hall of Fame lacrosse coach Bob Scott, who dutifully clipped each drawing out of the News-Letter and displayed them for a decade in the Hopkins locker room.
It has remained a unique part of Johns Hopkins University athletic history ever since. Legend has it that many former JHU lacrosse players have had the NAG Bluejay tattooed after their careers at Hopkins.
