Capitalizing on the lack of hockey teams in a number of major American cities and mid-level Canadian cities, the WHA was the first major league to compete with the NHL. The Miami Screaming Eagles entered the league in 1972, playing at the Hollywood Sportatorium. The Screaming Eagles graced the ice until 1972 when the team folded due to their franchise agreement in the WHA being terminated.
