The Story
Debuting in the inaugural season of the USFL, the Boston Breakers were the city's spring/summer season pro football club. After being rejected to play at Boston's tow best stadiums of the time ( Sullivan Stadium, home of the Patriots, and Harvard Stadium), the team settled on Nickerson Field at Boston University.
Despite fielding a fairly solid team (they went 11-7 that season), playing in Nickerson doomed the team in Boston. It was so small that the Breakers lost money even when they sold out, as visiting teams got a portion of the gate proceeds. When the Breakers were unable to secure a lease in any of the larger stadiums in the Boston area following the season, the team was moved to New Orleans.
