1974 Toronto Tomahawks Tee
Regular price $34.00The Story
The Original National Lacrosse League played from 1974-75, and was conceived by hockey owners as a means to fill their arenas in the summer months, the league was not very successful, with only Philadelphia and Montreal drawing sizeable crowds. The league folded in 1976 after the demise of several franchises and the inability of the Montreal franchise to play home games in 1976 because of the Summer Olympics.
Besides featuring NHL players such as Rick Dudley (Rochester) and Doug Favell (Philadelphia), the league also included Bruce Arena (Montreal)—who went on to greater fame as the head coach of the United States men's national soccer team.

1975 Erie Blades Tee
Regular price $34.00The Story
The Erie Blades played in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) from 1975-1977.
If the teams of the NAHL (1973-1977) look familiar, it's because the league served as the inspiration for one of the greatest sports movies of all time: Slap Shot. Ned Dowd, who played for the Johnston Jets, was the brother of the film's screenwriter, Nancy Dowd who was inspired to write the screenplay based off of Ned's experiences in a league where bench-clearing brawls and fights between players and fans were the norm on Friday and Saturday nights in arenas in cities like Syracuse, Binghamton and Erie.
The league's championship trophy, the Lockhart Cup, was last awarded on April 10, 1977, to the Syracuse Blazers and has since gone missing. Its last known whereabouts was reported to be in the basement of Danny Belisle, the coach of the Blazers in the 1976–77 season.

In 1955, the Barons returned to its original league and won seven more championships between 1955 and 1978. The after effects of Hurricane Agnes forced the Barons to fold midway through the 1973-74 season; the team returned to action for the 1975-76 season. For the 1979-80 season they were rebranded as the Pennsylvania Barons; this would be the team's last year in Wilkes-Barre. (The team played the 1980-81 CBA season in Scranton as the Scranton Aces before folding completely.)

1975 Portland Thunder WFL Tee
Regular price $34.00The Story
The Portland Storm was an American football team in the World Football League based out of Portland, Oregon. When the World Football League was created in October 1973, the Storm was the original New York franchise. When the Boston Bulls merged with New York to become the New York Stars, the original New York entry's draft picks were eventually relegated to Portland. They were the first major league football team based in Portland. They played at Civic Stadium, now known as Providence Park. The team finished the season with an overall record of 7-12-1, tied with Houston-Shreveport for 8th place in the 12-team league and seemingly qualifying them for the playoffs. However, league officials decided to reduce the playoff field to six teams—without telling anyone with the Storm. The Portland Thunder took the Storm's place in 1975 and lasted until the entire WFL folded halfway through their second season. The Thunder's office in downtown closed in October 1975. In 2013, the Arena Football League expanded into Portland, as the Portland Thunder, making many recall the glory days of the Storm/Thunder.

1975 Chicago Winds WFL Tee
Regular price $34.00The Story
The Chicago Winds was the World Football League's ill-fated 1975 successor to the Chicago Fire. The team was so named because Chicago was nicknamed "The Windy City." The Winds played at Soldier Field and the team was assigned to the WFL's Western Division for 1975 (the league having shrunk from 12 franchises to 11, and from three divisions to two). The Winds lost their first two regular-season contests, 10-0 in Birmingham and 38-18 in Shreveport, before beating the Portland Thunder, 25-18 in overtime; just 3,501 fans attended the contest, their last at Soldier Field. After two more road losses (at Hawaii and Memphis), the team was 1-4 and swimming in red ink and soon folded.

1974 Florida Blazers WFL Tee
Regular price $34.00The Story
The Blazers began in 1974 when oceanographic engineer E. Joseph Wheeler bought the WFL rights to the Washington, D. C. area. The team was originally called the Washington Capitals, but the NHL expansion team of the same name objected, forcing him to change the name to the Washington Ambassadors. Under coach Jack Pardee, quarterback Bob Davis (Joe Namath's former backup), running back Tommy Reamon and a dominating secondary, the Blazers ran away with the Eastern Division, finishing with a 14-6 record. They then upset the Memphis Southmen, owners of the league's best record, to advance to the World Bowl against the Birmingham Americans. Early in that game, Reamon scored what appeared to be the game's first touchdown, only to have it ruled a touchback because the officials believed that he fumbled the ball out of the end zone. Replays clearly showed that Reamon lost the ball after it broke the plane of the goal line. The missed call proved to be the difference, as the Blazers lost 22-21.

1970 The Floridians Wordmark Tee
Regular price $34.00The Story
In 1970, after two struggling seasons, the Miami Floridians were purchased by a new owner, retired ad man Ned Doyle (best known for his imaginative Volkswagen ads) who wanted to make the team more regional (the team started playing games all over Florida: Miami, Tampa/St. Pete, Jacksonville, and West Palm Beach) - thus a name change was in order to just "The Floridians." Team colors were also changed to a bolder scheme of magenta, orange and black.
Doyle used his advertising background to try and get more fans through the turnstiles. The Floridians became known for their scantily clad ball girls and crazy promotions. One program advertising the team's next two home games didn't even bother to mention the two teams they were going to play....instead, the program stated: "FREE PANTYHOSE--The Floridians return to the Convention Hall Thursday, Nov. 5, for Ladies Night, with pantyhose given away to the first 500 ladies through the turnstiles."
Other Floridians promotions included: live turkeys for Thanksgiving, 15 pounds of smoked fish (to one lucky fan!), 57 pounds of Irish potatoes on "Irish Night," 53 pumpkin pies, and free kegs of beer.
Despite the antics, the team's attendance never steadied and the franchise folded after the 71-72 season.

The San Antonio Wings were a new franchise in the second and final season of the World Football League (1974-1975). As part of their entry into the league, the Wings were provided rights to some of the Blazers contracts, but were also treated as an expansion team and allowed to select two players from each of the returning franchises through an expansion draft. Quarterback Johnnie Walton, a relic from the old Continental Football League who had spent most of the early 1970s bouncing around NFL practice squads, led the WFL in passing in 1975. The Wings held their home games at Alamo Stadium, which seated 25,000. San Antonio finished with a 7-6 record (winning all seven home games and losing all six road games) before the league folded on October 22, 1975.

From Anaheim to LA, eventually the Stars landed in what would become home in Salt Lake City from 1970-1976. The Stars are widely considered one of the most successful teams in ABA history. They were also known for having some of the best fan support in the ABA, even up until the team folded in 1975. (The Stars were the first major professional basketball team to use a pre-game shootaround.) When the ABA and NBA merged in 1976 the glory of the Utah Stars was retired to the rafters of Basketballs past glory.

(The league was planning to place a new team in New York in 1976 once Yankee Stadium reopened).
Forced to find a new logo literally at the last minute, the equipment manager simply stuck the Chicago Bears' "C" logo over the old New York logo.

1971 Toronto Metros Tee
Regular price $34.00The Story
The Toronto Metros played at Varsity Stadium from 1971 to 1984 before eventually folding in 1984. Even though the Toronto Metros were a strong team in the 1973 NASL season it wasn't enough to keep the red and blue in Toronto. With players like David Henderson & Peter Roe donning the red and blue in Toronto, the Toronto Metros should have been able to fill seats. The reality however what much different and with low attendance, the Toronto Metros soon folded and became no more.
