The ABA's Denver Rockets played in the Denver Auditorium Arena from 1967-1974 before making the move to the brand new McNichols Arena for the 1975 season. Playing at their new arena, the Nuggets edged the reigning champion Kentucky Colonels to make the '76 ABA Finals for the first time, eventually losing to the New York Nets. In preparation for the 1976 ABA and NBA Merger, the team renamed to the Denver Nuggets as the NBA already had a Rockets in Houston.
